This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia at a fully accredited private hospital. The procedure usually takes two hours to complete. Dr Bish will make incisions in the natural breast crease, taking care to target your previous incision sites to minimise additional scarring. He will then remove the implant through the opening. The surrounding scar tissue that has formed around the implant may also be removed in what is referred to as a capsulectomy or en bloc.

Patients can have implant removal alone or combine it with a replacement or a breast lift. For women who are having their implants replaced, Dr Bish will insert new implants after removing the old ones. He may also need to insert a drain for a day or two to collect any fluid that may accumulate. Your incisions will then be closed with sutures. Patients are usually left with only a thin scar, although it may appear slightly different from the scar after the previous breast surgery.

After your procedure, you may need to stay in the hospital overnight and should have a friend or family member drive you home. It is important to take proper care of your breasts after surgery to promote healthy wound healing. Dr Bish will provide specific instructions on how to care for your breasts during the post-operative period to optimise your recovery. This may include avoiding strenuous activities, wearing a compression bra, and getting plenty of rest.

Like every surgery, breast implant removal comes along with some degree of risk. Complications can include:
